South Point Hotel, Casino & Spa Expansion to Open July 16th

LAS VEGAS, NV – Michael Gaughan’s South Point Hotel, Casino & Spa has announced the planned opening of a 55,000 square-foot casino expansion. The expansion will give the South Point one of the largest gaming floors of any casino in the country.

The first phase of this opening will feature the addition of 400 slot, video poker and video keno machines, a newly designed race book, a new, large poker room and a multi-function entertainment area named the Grandview Lounge. The second phase will feature a culinary staple of the Midwest, Steak ‘n Shake, and a future Japanese sushi-teppanyaki restaurant is also planned.

Gaughan said, “The space will enable us to open more of the slot floor to foot traffic. I think people will feel more comfortable in the whole casino with the opening of this new area. It’s still easy to navigate through our bright, convenient property.”

The newly designed race book will open with 175 seats, all with Interactive Player Terminals enabling wagering from the comfort and convenience of players’ seats. To kickoff it’s new location, on July 16th at 11am, thoroughbred trainer Craig Dollase will be on hand for a Q&A hosted by handicapper Ralph Siraco. The festivities continue with $10 entry handicapping contests on Friday and Saturday. $5,000 in bonus prize money must go each day. South Point Race players will also earn double points until the end of July. The opening will mark one of the only separate race and sports books in Nevada.

The spacious new poker room at South Point will feature 22 tables and three daily tournaments. The 10am tournament features a $50 buy-in and $5 bounty. The 2pm tournament features a $100 buy-in and $25 bounty. The 7pm tournament features a $75 buy-in and $5 bounty. For the first two weeks, all tournaments will feature no “house drop.” Players will also earn $2 per hour in comps in July. To kickoff the new room, on Friday and Saturday, any player who buys-in for $40 will get $50 in chips (limit) or $100 will get $110 (no-limit). South Point will also feature a $100,000 Freeroll Tournament for players who qualify over August, September and October.

Free cake and champagne will be served in The Grandview Lounge from noon until midnight on Friday July 16th and Saturday July 17th. There will also be live music from 5-9pm. Taking its name from the neighboring timeshare complex, this new entertainment venue will feature a bar and nightly entertainment in a relaxed setting. The 100-seat lounge will also play host to special events and viewing parties.
