South Point Hotel, Casino & Spa Opens Two New Restaurants
LAS VEGAS, NV – Michael Gaughan’s South Point is growing again. The first portion of an expansion project that began in August is completed, ahead of schedule. The first stage included two new restaurants and two new bars. The new restaurants are new to the South Point, but classics to those that know Gaughan’s former properties.
Baja Miguel’s is a traditional Mexican Restaurant that was present when the South Point opened, but has been absent since the construction of the new Michael’s. The restaurant is managed by Elpidio “Pete” Solis. Solis was the former manager of Don Miguel’s at the Orleans. Solis said, “I came to work at the South Point because I love my job, and in my opinion there is no better place to work”. The room chef is one with immeasurable experience, Jesus Aguirre. Aguirre was born in Durango, Mexico and learned his skills working for a family restaurant in Mexico. Aguirre was the former room chef at the Orleans’ Don Miguel’s for the past nine years.
The second restaurant is Primarily Prime Rib. This is a completely new restaurant to the property. It features four separate cuts of prime rib as well as chicken and seafood dishes at very affordable prices. The average per person ticket is around $25. This restaurant is managed by Shafqaat Bukhari, former room manager of the Orleans’ Prime Rib Loft. When asked why he decided to move to the South Point he said, “I wanted to follow a very good leader, Mr. Michael Gaughan, and wanted to become part of his successful team.” The room chef is Salvador Arreola. He was the Assistant Room Chef at the Orleans’ Prime Rib loft for the past six years.
Also opening are two new bars, Miguel’s Tequila Bar and also the Silverado Lounge. Miguel’s Tequila Bar features 71 different tequilas and various house specialty drinks. “We felt that it was important to keep up with the recent trend of specialty tequilas,” said Kate Lenton, Beverage Director. “A few years ago it was specialty vodkas and rums, now it is tequila.” The Silverado Lounge is on the casino floor across from the Silverado Steakhouse. The lounge features various micro brews on tap. This is the perfect place to watch a game or just have a cocktail while waiting for dinner reservations.
“I would like to thank all of our project partners for getting this done ahead of schedule,” Michael Gaughan said. “Without their teamwork, we wouldn’t have been done this fast.”
The architect for this project was Leo A. Daly. The interior designer was Yates-Silverman.
